The Hospital's No Better Than High School. Saturday, November 17, 2007
True. True. True.
Although, in general, we all got along just fine, we do have cliques. What Christina said is true. Surgeons are the jocks, internists are the nerds, pediatricians are the cheerleaders, and shrinks are the weirdos. We can't help it. We are drawn to people with similar interests.
One reason why I think people my section and my clerkship group got along well with each other is that we all love TV. Nights of endless reading still accommodated at least an hour of TV viewing a night. Queer Eye For The Straight Guy on Mondays, Smallville on Tuesdays, etc. Lazy Sapang Palay days were spent with Friends. On-call hours were made more bearable by Takeshi's Castle, Grey's Anatomy and House marathons.
This past week was a bad week for me. I say bad because TV has now become my addiction.
Early in the morning I wake up and have breakfast (extending to lunch) with the people of The Today Show. While studying, I am distracted by the anticipation of the day's download.
It was a bad week for me because it was such a good week of TV. Rachel Bilson was on Chuck, Hiro is back from the past, Blair's life is steamier, private practitioners get freaky in the conference room, and doctors are still in high school. And those weren't the only shows I've seen.
I'm so freaking addicted, I might convulse if I quit cold turkey.

i was the nerd in high school. but i'm going into surgery. hahaha. does this imply something?
we were all geeks in high school, i think. so i guess the hospital is high school for nerds and hence we are reclassified.
if i would go into anesthesiology, would that make me a towel/water girl? eep! i prefer to say... team statistician. haha!
anesthesiologists aren't twoel/water girls/boys. they can make a surgeon's life hell if they wanted to. :)
